Plumbing and Heating Jobs for the Summer!

Date: 17/07/2025

It's easy to forget about your central heating in the summer months, we don't need it so out of sight, out of mind! The issue with this is when not in use, boilers start to degrade internally on the seals and parts sieze up meaning, when you turn it on in the colder months for the first time, boilers start to go snap, crackle and pop on us! We ALWAYS recieve a huge number of call out's on the first cold day of the year for this very reason and it often leads to costly repairs.

Do yourself a favour and just turn on your boiler for half an hour every couple of weeks, make sure it is working and the radiators are getting hot all over. The other thing to happen is the sludge inside your central heating system can start to settle and cause blockages in your pipework and radiators so keeping that flow going, helps push it round the system to the system filter so it doesn't become welded to anything internally.

If you find you have cold spots on your radiators, the summer is the perfect time to get your system flushed. We recommend this is done every 7 to 10 years to keep on top of things and ensure you are not left with bigger issues.

Are you planning to have a new boiler this year? Do it now, don't wait for winter. Not only will you be paying more after the industry price rises in September but you will also be waiting longer when the weather turns as every engineer will be booked up.

Summer always sees an influx of outside tap enquiries, we carry out a lot of these and they are always fitted with the same care we install anything with. Just because it's out in your garden, it doesn't make it any less important. All our outside taps come with a none return valve and back plate. Alot of people are now having a hot tap installed along with their outside tap for washing dogs off and this is a great way to fill paddling pools easily so little ones don't want to get right back out again because the water is too cold.

We hope you are enjoying the warmer weather but don't forget your boiler in the mean time or it may just come back to bite you in November!
