Is your Boiler and Central Heating Winter Ready?
The nights are sadly starting to draw in and people are asking "have you turned your heating on yet?". You probably think you will leave it a little longer and an added layer in the evening will suffice for now. However, it might be worth taking a few minutes now to save you being out in the cold in a month or so when you do turn your heating on!
Like most businesses, Boiler Engineers have peak and off peak seasons. I am sure you can all understand why winter is our peak season. The first cold night comes along and all of sudden, our phones go into overdrive. We care about all our clients so when any of you call up saying your boiler is on the blink, we want to be able to get to you as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, that can't always happen and winter is one time of the year where we, like all Gas Engineers are pushed to the limit.
- Does your boiler turn on ok?
- Can you see any water leaking from the bottom of your boiler?
- Is your boiler making any funny sounds?
- Do your radiators heat up in a reasonable time and are they hot from the bottom to the top?
- Are the valves on your radiators all working?
- Is there any water dripping from any radiators?
- Are there any rusty spots on your radiators?
- Is external pipework lagged?
If you have checked all these and are happy with the results fantastic! Whilst these checks won't guarantee you are breakdown free, they will certainly help to pre-empt any issues now rather than waiting for when you really need your heating in the depths of winter.
Of course, if your boiler does breakdown on a cold January morning, we will always try our best to get to you as quickly as we possibly because we don't like thinking of anyone being in the cold! If the very worst happens and we need to replace your boiler, we will do this as quickly and efficiently as possible leaving you with as little to worry about as possible.
